HeartCode® PALS Online is a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program that uses adaptive learning technology to allow learners to acquire and demonstrate Pediatric Advanced Life Support skills using a personalized learning path that adapts in real time to a learner’s performance. The program is designed for healthcare professionals who need Pediatric Advanced Life Support training for their clinical duties. HeartCode® PALS Online consists of a cognitive portion that is completed online. A separate psychomotor skills assessment using voice assisted manikins with real-time audio and visual feedback or a skills assessment with an AHA Instructor is required to earn a valid AHA PALS Provider eCard that is valid for two years.
After successfully completing this course, students will be able to
- Perform high‐quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) per American Heart Association (AHA) basic life support (BLS) recommendations
- Differentiate between patients who do and do not require immediate intervention
- Recognize cardiopulmonary arrest early and begin CPR within 10 seconds
- Apply team dynamics
- Differentiate between respiratory distress and failure
- Perform early interventions for respiratory distress and failure
- Differentiate between compensated and decompensated (hypotensive) shock
- Perform early interventions for the treatment of shock
- Differentiate between unstable and stable patients with arrhythmias
- Describe clinical characteristics of instability in patients with arrhythmias
- Implement post–cardiac arrest management
HeartCode Skills Evaluation
The American Heart AssociationⒸ and Central Valley Medical Education now offers RQI/Heart Code hands-on skills testing. Students will skills test with a VAM (Voice Assisted Manikin). During the skills testing, an instructor will not be present, since the manikin and computer will guide you through your skills. You must provide your online completion certifiicate to us before you can attend the skills session. Initial or renewal students can take this BLS course.

Process
• You register and pay for the skills testing.
• We send you an email with a link to upload your certificate and you choose the date and time.
• We send you a link from RQI1stop for you to set up an account.
• You show up to the classroom and perform your skills testing. You will be sent an email to claim your certification eCard the same day of class.

The computer will guide you through Adult & Infant CPR and two person CPR.
